Install Problem

Post by cultural_crescendo »

I downloaded OOo and put it in the applications folder like i was told, then when i tried to install it it told me i needed x11 so i went and downloaded that. But when i tried to install x11 it told me that i could not install x11 because "Newer software already exists on this computer". Anyone understand this because i surely do not.

What OSX version are you using? What version of OpenOffice.org are you trying to install? What are the error messages you are getting when you try to install OpenOffice.org?

I am guessing you have Leopard (10.5.x). X11 is installed by default on Leopard. Make sure you update X11 to the latest version supplied by Apple.

Other options are to use the NeoOffice version of OpenOffice.org or to try out the new OpenOffice.org for Aqua http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/aqua.html Note that the new OSX Aqua version of OpenOffice.org is still an early version (it is NOT a final release).
openSUSE 11.4, KDE4.6 with OpenOffice.org 3.3

It sounds like you are using OS 10.4.xx Tiger. If so, X11 needs to be installed from your system install disks. It is an optional install. See instructions at http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/i ... g/X11.html
