Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? Not sure
What Operating System (version) are you using? Mac OS X.4
What is your question or comment? I have had to re- install Open Office and now it will not load. I have re- downloaded the softward today and re-installed X11 but no luck. I try and open a document made when I previously had Open Office and X11 loads but OpenOffice does not.
Please advise what to do next

Have you tried re-naming your user settings folder? Make sure all OO processes, including any quick starter, are closed first. Sometimes inexplicable errors are inexplicably caused by some unknown error in that folder. :(

I also cannot get OpenOffice to start up. I am running MacOS10,5,2, and trying to run OpenOffice 2.4. I also had the same problem with OpenOff 2.3.1. Previously OpenOffice 2.3.1 had run properly. Now it appears in the processes, but does not open, and cannot open .odt files.

I removed all traces of OpenOffice from
myaccount/Library/Preferences and
myaccount/Library/Application Support
There are no apparent OpenOffice files in root/Library/Preferences OR Application Support

I then Opened X11 first, as described in an OpenOffice FAQ, and tried to open OpenOffice.org 2.4.app without success. The BMW symbol rotates for awhile, very slowly, and then stops. I have to force quit OpenOffice.org, as OpenOffice.org, while displaying a dropdown menu for quit, will quit neither from the menu or with CMD-Q.

Added 14 April 2008

I also
- repaired my Boot Disk with DiskWarrior
- exercised a number of terminal commands recommended in another Forum entry to identify and terminate 'hung' processes associated with OpenOffice.org - there were no such processes - I am unable to again find that Forum entry to reference it.

X11 is XQuartz 2.1.4 - (xorg-server 1.3.0-apple10)

OpenOffice.org still behaves as described above.

NeoOffice 2.2.3 with Patch-1 does run.

I, too am unable to open OpenOffice since the last 2 versions (2.2, 2.3). I am about ready to give up. I have X11. It is installed. It is open. OpenOffice appears but only as a script. What is that?
Why can I open 2.1 but nothing after that???
CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

I have PPC G4, OS 10.4.11

To silverhammer - recommend you try NeoOffice 2.2.3, it seems to run for me while, as described above OpenOffice does not. I have not done any work with NeoOffice 2.2.3 yet, but it seems to open my .odt files.
