[Solved] Java (JRE) issues using Database

Welp, I give up. Tried every permutation of symlinking and browsing-to-directories I could think of and nothing works.

I have other stuff that uses Java and there are no problems with the update - NeoOffice, Netbeans, Processing, Firefox - I guess this is specific to OOo.

For now I'm gonna have to do some OOo development in Windows. This is an abomination.

Have you tried
3.3.0 Release Candidate 2 (build OOO330m12)

It seems to work for me so far on OS X 10.6.4 with the JavaForMacOSX10.6Update3 installed.

Did you try to use for instance the LanguageTool extension ?

I cannot install it with the 3.3.0 RC2.

Thanks for the suggestion Al - RC2 finds the JRE that way, but crashes when it tries to use it, e.g. with one of the wizards in Base.

Incidentally, if anyone's looking for confirmation that Apple hasn't been discussing the Java situation with Oracle, I'd say this is it.

Based on what I have read on the issue site (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=115200), rolling back the old files using time machine seems to be an option for recovering OOo.

I am posting the following as some people seem desperate to get OOo working again in a hurry and this might be an option for them.

I have time machine and went back prior to the 1.6.0_22 upgrade and copied the 1.6.0 folder from the following location:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0

I then paste it over the top (after backing up the 1.6.0_22 installation files), and it seems to work when I Add the following location to the Java settings under the OpenOffice >> Preferences menu.
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home

This reverted it to version 1.6.0_20.

It has worked for a few hours now.

I have made a copy of these files and uploaded a zip file to the following location.
File name: 1.6.0.zip
Size: 107,562 KB
[Update - I've removed the link above as this has now been solved.]

This is a copy of my Java files that I used, and for those that don't have time machine, it might be useful for you. NOTE: There is no warranty on these files - use at your own risk and make sure you back up your old files. I haven't changed or added anything, and I strongly recommend you copy the old files first in case they don't work.

The patch posted at:

worked like a charm. One does not need to use Terminal but can control-click on OpenOffice.app to show
Contents and subfolders. One can rename existing files as suggested and drag new patches into place.
One may need to be logged in as root.

The problem with Java is fixed in the latest Release Candidate — OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 RC 3.

One of my best tools for fixing things like the sudo ln mistake above muCommander. This is a file manager program which enabled me to delete the JavaVM where it was not supposed to be.

To install Java click the Add button. Then navigate to:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home

Since JRE is fundamental to using Base, I don't understand why OpenOffice Help doesn't explain what you explained so succinctly in your post. Perhaps it's a good thing. Without finding your post I wouldn't have found your web site. Now I'm a fan of your art, too.
