Hi
Just discovered the OpenOffice.org site!! I received a Mac Book for Xmas and have downloaded VMWare Fusion in order to also run Microsoft Office apps on the Mac ( our company uses XP and the usual Word, Excel and powerpoint ) The chap at the Mac shop advised me to purchase the Mac Office suite in order to be able to read any Microsoft files that I receive from work or customers - this is very expensive, and I would like to know if I use OpenOffice would I be able to automatically read any Word, Excel or Powerpoint files that people send me or do I still have to go the Microsoft MacOffice route?
Many thanks ........and Happy New year!

Office XP files readable on Mac with OOo?
Re: Office XP files
Yes, almost all, only Vista/Office 2007 .docx, .xlsx, and other files not supported fully now, but development ongoing.
You will find some problems with heavy formatted documents, tables and presentations.
You could use Opeoffie.org on MAC or use payable OOo based NeoOffice.( http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Main_Page )
You could find more information about OOo:
