Sometime in the last month or two, my AOO writer .odt files started taking a long time to open. A long time to me is 15-20 seconds.
I notice that if I open them from file/open within Writer, they open quickly, but if I open them from finder - they take a long time.
At first I thought it might be because these files are in an "alias" folder on my desktop. That is not the issue as they don't open any faster from the actual folder than they do from the alias folder.
Any thoughts?

Have you installed any other programs that might be working in the background?
No matter the answer, can you boot in a safe mode?
If you can, do so then see if your files load better or not.
If they do, then some program on your system is using resources that it previously didn't, thus making your system run slower than expected.
