Issue with downloading/uploading OOo (Impress and Writer)

I just got a MacBook and i am not familiar with how to use it and i tried to download openoffice and it only downloaded the "Word" program and not the Impress program. SO i tired to delete open office and tried to download it again but not it won't even open. HELP! When i try to click on the Open Office.org icon, nothing appears just a box that says, "Command timed out" and when i choose File, there is only a spot that says "Use Startup Screen" Nothing will appear.

To open the other components: File>New or something like that (already discussed in the Mac forum where I move your thread).
