I am sorry. I don't know how to install this. I've downloaded the folder and extracted the files and I have a folder called en-US which contains "licenses", "readmes" and "RPMS". I'm used to there being just a .exe file that you can "run", and all the instructions for how to install that I find from Apache site are not in laymens vernacular.

I have no idea what the following two steps mean for RPM and and DBM based installations, respectively, for instance, nor do I know what RPM or DBM are

What operating system are you using? Windows, or linux? If linux, which variety?

finally got the right command, sorry: Linux 4.10.0-38-generic x86_64

greeting screen also says Linux Mint 18.3 "Sylvia" "Cinnamon 64-bit"

In view of your inexperience with linux I suggest you install LibreOffice from that version's repositories. You will see little difference between LibreOffice and OpenOffice.

Thanks. I'll wait for a reply from a less elitist member. I've been using Linux for two years and I already have Libre.

When one needs to spruce up their resume for appearance and aesthetics and format, sometimes one prefers to experiment with different programs. That is all.

You are using a version of linux that uses DEB files. Download the .gz archive which you select from the menus containing the DEB version, unpack the contents, then use the instructions as set out in

Don't install anything. Start the program LibreOffice. It is the successor of OpenOffice. I'm almost sure that LibreOffice is already installed on your system.

He says he has it, but wants OpenOffice to update his résumé.
