updating OOo

I have a SUSE 10.2 system and would like to upgrade my open office.
in which directory does the "old program" sit (the bin directory?)
in which directory should I install the new version?
do I have to uninstall the old version or can I just "overwrite" the old one with the new program?
I downloaded some more fonts, where do they go (it's an gzipped archive)

Is this partition FAT or NTFS? Are you doing this from SuSE or XP?

The reason that I ask is that you can only read NFTS partitions from Linux not write to them?

I suppose its a NFTS partition. I can open and read the documents but can not delete them

The reason that you can't open an NTFS partition Read-Write is that NTFS implements an ACL based security. Basically its quite straight forward to read an NTFS partition, but updating it without corrupting it is a lot more difficult. If you want to work on both then by far the easiest way is to use a FAT based partition. If you don't want to start playing around repartitioning your HDD, then why not just buy a USB flash drive and use that as your working transfer partition. You can get up to an 8Gbyte stick for about $10/Gbyte nowadays.

Or you can install the NTFS-3g driver in Linux: http://www.ntfs-3g.org/index.html

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about SUSE, so I can't help you install it, but the NTFS-3g driver allows read-write access to NTFS partitions, and I can tell you from experience that it works really well (I've used it on the SystemRescueCD).
