[Solved] Mint - Anyone know how to install AOO on Mint?
[Solved] Mint - Anyone know how to install AOO on Mint?
I have Mint 18.3. It came with Libre Office, but the spellcheck doesn't work. Uninstalled LO using the software manager. Downloaded Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-GB, unpacked it and now I have a huge box of assorted files. Anybody know what to do next?

How I install OO on a deb-based distro:
In a terminal I use
sudo apt purge libreoffice*
(note the trailing *)' this will remove all traces of libreoffice
Now do this: from the downloaded deb file extract the en-GB folder; don't go below it
cd Downloads/en-GB/DEBS
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
cd desktop-integration
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
and OO should show up in your Office folder.
(all the above commands are in a terminal).

Remember the method, as you may need to do this again with a version upgrade of Mint.
