[Solved] OpenOffice 5.1.2.6 on Zorin Linux?

I recently purchased on ebay a DVD of "Zorin Linux 12.2". After setting it up on one of my desktop computers along with a copy of OpenOffice, I noticed the Logo was calling it OpenOffice 5. I checked the "About" info window and found that it lists it as version 5.1.2.6. Since it is imbedded with linux on the DVD and can't be installed as a separate program I started looking online for it so I could install it on my other computers which are windows based. However, I found that the most recent downloadable version is 4.1.5. Does anyone know anything about this and if so whether or not I can get a separate copy of version 5... :?:

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It may be LibreOffice, which is a fork of the original OpenOffice.org.
If you like it, keep it, else, you have to remove it to install Apache OpenOffice. 4.1.5, the latest version. Zorin is based on Ubuntu so there are tutorials to do that.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

OpenOffice current release is 4.1.5; the next release may be OO 4.2.0. It is possible that Zorin, as almost all linux distros, choose to distribute LibreOffice, whose numbering is as you indicate and later versions; for their own purposes Zorin may have renamed it back to OpenOffice, as they both spring from the same roots. Indeed, if you try to install OpenOffice from most linux repositories, you will silently be presented with LibreOffice.

Start up that version, and see what /Help /About tells you.

Libreoffice does not have a version that exactly matches what you have. It may something that was modified by someone. The Zorin Linux web site https://zorinos.com/download/ mentions Libreoffice.

For most purposes you probably will not notice any difference between OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

Distrowatch says that Zorin 12.2 includes LibreOffice 5.1.2.6 RC2, so it's probably a release candidate. Zorin 12.2 was released almost 6 months ago, so there may be a newer version of LO in the Zorin repositories.

OK, I admit it, I'm a dunce. I know because it says so on my forehead.
Truth be told; You folks are exactly right. The "Logo's for the Office version that came with Zorin actually says "LibreOffice". But, when I would look at it, (notice I say, look at it, not, read it, I would be thinking "OpenOffice". Thanks, Ya'll, now I need to make up my mind which one I actually want to use. Probably keep Libre on my Linux machines since it comes with it and is imbedded in my Zorin 12.2 disc but I actually have a fairly recent copy of OpenOffice (4.0.1) that I use on my Windows 7 machines. I'll probably keep it that way and save a few dollars rather than get a separate copy of Libre or an upgraded copy of OpenOffice.
At any rate, thanks for pointing out how dumb I am. And if I make any more stupid mistakes I'm sure ya'll won't mind helping me see them.
Thanks again,
Tim

You do realise that you can download both AOO and LO free - no cost?
