[Solved] Can't Upgrade to 4.1.4

Post by artnow »

Hi all ...

Have tried to install OpenOffice 4.1.4 but after installation, I open up OO and check and it is still 4.1.3.

I downloaded from openoffice.org, find the download and double click then extract, navigate to DEBS/desktop-integration and double click the openoffice4.1-debian-menus_4.1.4-9788_all.deb. Installation window opens and says it is already installed but I re-install anyway. But I still end up with 4.1.3.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you install everything in DEBS (the program) or just what was in DEBS/desktop-integration (the menus)?

double click the openoffice4.1-debian-menus_4.1.4-9788_all.deb.
I believe this is only the menu entries for AOO that you have installed. I'm not familiar with .deb installations, but if you navigate to the directory DEBS you mention above, you should find a number of .deb files there which are the actual guts of the AOO installation.

Of course! Must have bumped my head on the "windows" ...

Using terminal I cd'd into the DEBS directory and then typed sudo dpkg -i *.deb ... worked perfectly.

Thanks for the help

When in the DEBS directory you should also

Code: Select all

 cd desktop-integration
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
This will install links to the components in the Office folder.

Yes of course! Thanks, I would not have done that otherwise.
