OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
Hello Everyone,
I've installed OpenOffice using rpm and have completed the desktop integration step also.
When I try to start openoffice application usinf ./soffice under '/opt/openoffice.org2.2/program', the application welcome page blinks on the screen for a second and disappears.
Even though I have done the menu integration, there is no menu available in the Start Menu.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
If you are using OpenOffice 2.2, I would recommend using a newer version of OpenOffice, currently 4.1.3; OO2.2 is so old there will be no support for such old code.
I think LibreOffice is available in the Centos applications. For most purposes there will be little difference between LibreOffice and OpenOffice.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
Hello RoryOF,
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.
For a specific application that was developed 10 years ago, this particular version of OpenOffice is kinda necessary. This particular application depends on 2.2.
I'm having a major release next month. I've been stuck with this problem for so long. Is there any way I can fix this?

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
It may be easier to fix the macro code in the application. How well does that work on OO4.1.3? If you can isolate the problem subroutines and post their code, someone can probably advise.

Hello RoryOF,
Thanks again for the reply.
I'm really sorry that I am not into OpenOffice Development. So I have no idea how to get the code and do it. Will it be helpful if I paste the contents of soffice file in here?

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
Best if you upload the soffice file. Then we can see what is happening inside. The upload tab is below the Submit button on the FullEditor or PostReply screens, not on the QuickReply screen.

Hello RoryOF,
Please find the attached soffice file.
Since there was an error 'extension not allowed', made it as a text file and attached. FYI.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
This seems to be a linux bash file, used to set up various matters on the computer. When you run it, where does it blow up?

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
Sorry. I didn't get that. When I run it, the open office start up image appears on the screen and it disappears suddenly. I have no idea what's going on.RoryOF wrote:This seems to be a linux bash file, used to set up various matters on the computer. When you run it, where does it blow up?

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
You will need to change the path for OpenOffice (soffice) to /opt/openoffice4/program (on my computer with an "out of the box" OO installation) and all should be well for it to startup OpenOffice 4.1.3 (when that is installed). I cannot tell you how to do this within your batch file and its settings; I don't know how and will not experiment on my work computer, as I have much work in progress and do not wish to risk breaking it.
You may need to consult the person who set up this batch file and have him adjust it.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
This batch file is by default there in the out of the box install of OO2.2 I didn't change any of these things. I don't know why such a fresh installer behaves like this. Anyone can help?

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
I assume you are not doing this from a console or xterm window; please try running it from the command line in a console or xterm window and let us know what error you get. When I try to start openoffice application usinf ./soffice under '/opt/openoffice.org2.2/program', the application welcome page blinks on the screen for a second and disappears.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
Hello robleyd,
I'm trying this from linux terminal because even though I enabled Menu integration, the options are not available in the main menu. When I try to run soffice from terminal, I'm not getting any error. The welcome screen of OO flashes on the screen and then disappears. Is there any log file available somewhere? Coz I don't see any error in the terminal.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
AOO doesn't have a log file. You could try system log files such as debug or messages (kept in /var/log for Slackware, not sure for CentOS) or see if there is any log for X11 windowing.

Hello David,
I think the following excerpt from 'messages' file from '/var/log' could be an indication of the error.
Can you please look at it and help me?
P.S Could not attach the full log as the file size was too large to upload in here.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
That is probably beyond the expertise of most of us here; I wonder if it might be worth a query on a Centos forum quoting all the log entries for that particular time.
abrt seems to be a Centos Automatic Bug Reporting Tool. more info here.

Re: OpenOffice 2.2 is not starting in CentOS7
OpenOffice 2.2 ?????
What an archaic version number...
There is not a newer version of the AOO or the LO for CentOS?
Or the Centos related and the other versions are numbered differently?
