[Solved] Newbie Trying to Install AOO on Linux Mint

Post by CarlinNY »

I've read tutorials and searched this forum and I can tell already I'm in over my head.

I downloaded 4.1.3 and ran the installation. At the end I get a screen showing everything appears OK except at the bottom it says "Errors were encountered while processing: /home/Carl/.cache.fr-I9ccIv/en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration/openoffice4.1-debian-menus_4.1.2-9782_all.deb"

What could these errors be, and how do I overcome them?

Thanks,

Carl (Rochester, New York)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Had you purged the LibreOffice packages that could have remained?

On any linux disytro that comes with LibreOffice I normally do

Code: Select all

sudo purge libreoffice*
(mote the trailing *) before installing OpenOffice.

Doing this removes some files that trip up the desktop-integration stage.

I never had Libre Office installed on the machine running Mint so there weren't any remnants when I tried installing AOO. However, I did try to install Libre Office after AOO and it failed to install as well, with the error message "Dependency is not satisfied." That's not a terribly informative message.

I'm new at this Linux stuff so I don't know how to get to that command line you show. I guess I need to remove whatever Libre Office just put on my machine when I tried to install it.

Thanks.

Use the code line I gave and then install OO again. As far as I know, LibreOffice is preinstalled on Mint, or at least hooks for it.

Open a Terminal by Ctrl Alt T,. then enter the code line, Do not forget the * at the end.

Son of a gun, you're right ... Libre Office is already on Mint. I haven't used the computer much since I put Mint on it so I hadn't noticed. Thanks! Problem solved.
