Opening Microsoft Excel file (.xls)

I am having a trouble opening ms excel file in the new version of openoffice 2.2
when opening excel file using openoffice 2.2 calc the openoffice opens up and then after a while suddenly it will close the whole application , but when i try opening ir in the lower version of openoffice 2.0 it goes well can someone help me

note: I've already tried changing permission and group but still the same thing happens
do you recommend reinstalling the old version 2.0 ? pls help... :?

All earlier version have lot of bugs, and security holes. Install 2.4.1 instead 2.2. On debian use original OOo version instead debian created version it a little different from that.
AOO 4.0 and LibO 4 on Win 8

LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

temporarily I've remove the version 2.2 and install the old version 2.0 on our server this is only for production purposes
because our client really needs to open their file and work, but still I will try to install the openoffice 2.4 in a another debian server which would be my testing server and try to check if the excel file would open if not i would get back to you and ask for more suggestions :D ,

FYI: My friend already tried this on other linux distro and it works just fine (Mandriva , Centos etc..)
guys thanks for the reply .. I will get back to you soon when Im done setting up my Ltsp server :D
