[Solved] Dependency problems Open Office Database

Post by Eclipse »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 2.4
What Operating System (version) are you using? Ubuntu 8.04
What is your question or comment? I have installed Ubuntu 8.04, added edubuntu. Although I have most of the open office suite, I have been unsuccessful to install the database component, base.
It comes up with an error message after suggesting things to be added and removed as follows: Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade
openoffice.org-base:
Depends: openoffice.org-base-core (=1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6) but 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-java-common but it is not going to be installed

Any help - do I uninstall open office and reinstall from open office site? Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks

You're probably better off removing the Ubuntu-flavoured version of OOo and installing the Sun version, which includes Draw and Base by default. That's all described here:

Thanks. Followed instructions as per tutorial. Also found no menus. Found in the downloaded office package there is a folder for desktop integration. I installed the menu package, and all seems to be fine.
Thanks for you help.
