OpenOffice 4.1.1under FreeBSD 10.0 Calc and Write crash

Post by luboy »

Hi,
I am using OpenOffice 4.1.1 on FreeBSD 10 amd64 (FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE-p7 #0 amd64) and I am running xfce 4.10 and . I have installed apache-openoffice-4.1.1 as a package. I have the following versions of JDK installed: bootstrap-openjdk-r351880, openjdk-7.65.17,1 and openjdk8-8.11.12.
I have found the following issues so far:
1. When I open file in Writer and then I open Calc I get "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All your files ...." message. Then writer is restarted and I am offered to restore my file in Writer.
The same happens when I first open file in Calc.
In general I can open any combination of OpenOffice application that do not include Calc.
2. When I open file in Writer and do some changes if I try to Save as... I get "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All your files ...." message. Then writer is restarted and I am offered to restore my file in Writer. The same is in Calc. I have the same issue with 'new file'.
3. In Calc if I try to format a cell from the context menu "format cell" or from the standard menu I get "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All your files ...." message.
4. In Calc if I open .xlsx file and try to Save as I get "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All your files ...." message.
5. When I open .xls or .ods files in Calc and afterwards if I attempt to open .xlsx as a second file then Calc crashes with "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All your files ...." message.

Sometimes when OpenOffice crashes it does not restart by itself. Then I discover that there are several instance of it still running (ps axu shows it) and I have to kill all the instances (see below):

6130 0.0 0.1 16992 2644 v0 I 3:48pm 0:00.06 /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/openoffice-4.1.1 -impress

6145 0.0 0.1 16992 2644 v0 I 3:48pm 0:00.04 /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/openoffice-4.1.1 -calc
6149 0.0 0.1 16992 2668 v0 I 3:48pm 0:00.00 /bin/sh /usr/local/openoffice-4.1.1/openoffice4/program/soffice -calc
6155 0.0 3.4 354300 104976 v0 S 3:48pm 0:00.41 /usr/local/openoffice-4.1.1/openoffice4/program/soffice.bin -calc
6156 0.0 0.1 16992 2644 v0 I 3:48pm 0:00.03 /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/openoffice-4.1.1 -impress
6160 0.0 0.1 16992 2668 v0 I 3:48pm 0:00.00 /bin/sh /usr/local/openoffice-4.1.1/openoffice4/program/soffice -impress
6166 0.0 3.4 354300 104984 v0 S 3:48pm 0:00.39 /usr/local/openoffice-4.1.1/openoffice4/program/soffice.bin -impress

I have had similar problems with OpenOffice 4.0.1.
I tried with libreoffice these days and I don't have these problems there.
Any help will be appreciated as I would like to stay with OpenOffice.
Please advice if I have to post somewhere else.

With best regards,

Lyubo

As far as I know the port to FreeBSD is being undertaken by some of the FreeBSD developers, not by Apache; I'd suggest you contacted the FreeBD site to see if more help is available
