Read this post with interest as I have just installed Ubuntu 8.04 and I have the same problem with OOo Base not seeing Java RTE.
In Tools-Options-OOo-Java, the 'Use Java RTE' box is checked and it shows 1.6.0_06 installed and points to the correct directory where this is. I have tried 'apt-get remove --purge' to completely remove OOo-base with config files and then 'apt-get install openoffice.org' to install the full package as suggested but OOo base still tells me that there is no JRE installed despite a check that 'Tools-Options...' still shows it.
Any suggestions anyone?? (I did not remove the other OOo packages that came with 8.04 before installing the full package. Would this have made any difference?)
