Hi and welcome to the forum!

How have you installed it exactly? With the debs downloaded from the website?
If you open a terminal and type openoffice4, what happens?

And you didn't notice any error message during install?
I guess that the architecture is correct (downloaded a 32bit version if your system is 32bit).

NB: could you tell exactly how you did the install (the command lines). Did you use dpkg?

I don't know what is involved here. You could ask the dev mailing list: http://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-li ... ist-public

If you've installed withe a GUI tool, I would try to install with dpkg instead (see [Ubuntu] Installing OpenOffice on Debian and Co.). If you've installed with dpkg, then I don't know, sorry...

Wait, I ran a quick search and found some relevant topics, see at the beginning of this query. Try the tutorial! and check there is no libreoffice package.

Please add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

I have AOO 4.0 running on Xubuntu 12.10 and prior to that on Xubuntu 12.04 computers with no problem. I first removed libreoffice-core and any other libreoffice references using Synaptic, then installed OpenOffice4 from the version in the www.openofice.org/download, usng the method set out in the tutorial (as Hagar's reference). As far as I remember I've installed the 32 bit version as most of my computers are running 32 bit Xubuntu.

running openoffice4 in terminal starts it up with no messages. whereis command in terminal gives

Code: Select all

whereis openoffice4
openoffice4: /usr/bin/openoffice4 /etc/openoffice4 /usr/bin/X11/openoffice4

I downloaded the 4.0.1 version today. Here's the commands used to unpack and install. Removed all LibreOffice first using Synaptic.

tar -xvf Apache_OpenOffice*.tar.gz

sudo dpkg -i en-US/DEBS/*.deb

sudo dpkg -i en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration/*.deb
