I'm having exactly the same problem trying to install from "Apache_OpenOffice_incubating_3.4.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz" today as Sak102010 had in July 2008 (!!) when he was trying to install 3.0.0-23 -- I get an error that the dependency "ooobasis3.4-en-US" is not satisfied even though I have installed "ooobasis3.4-en-us" with "us" in lower case rather than uppercase. How do I fix this? How can a simple error of capitalization be a problem again 4-1/2 years after it was already fixed?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

While I haven't used Linux Mint, I do use Ubuntu which is similar. To Install OpenOffice on Ubuntu it is best to completely remove the distro version of LibreOffice, which I do by using Synaptic to remove libreoffice-core - there may be need to remove also libreoffice-core01 etc.

Thanks, RoryOF. That's a good suggestion, because there are conflicts between the two (although I hope there no longer will be with LibreOffice version 4 said to have a substantially new code base). But I have removed every trace of LibreOffice that I can find in Synaptic, and it doesn't help. I still get the same "ooobasis3.4-en-US" error message.

It has been split from a topic because OP has posted in a topic that had been solved, hence the solved tags that refers to the former topic.
