[Solved] Ubuntu: Scroll Bar not working. Anyone affected?

Post by Felix_Kay »

Hey there,

I already posted this in Apache Bugs with no answer. I was wondering if anyone experienced a similar issue, since this is really a crucial thing that reduces working properly in Appache Open Office Writer for me .

Here's my the description:
Scroll bar in OO-Writer doesn't show a bar to move with the mouse, scrolling only "blindly" possible. Seems this is a graphical problem, since scrolling itself works. Also appears in other OO-programs (Calc etc.).

System is Ubuntu Quantal 12.10 with AOO 3.4.1.

Hope ta hear from u, Felix

No problem on my Ubuntus. Try deleting/renaming your User Profile.
Edit: If you reduce your OpenOffice window from full screen and centre it onscreen, does the scroll bar reappear?

No problem with AOO 3.4.1 on 12.10.
How have you installed AOO? With the .debs or a ppa?

Hey everyone, thanks for your help. The solution of RoryOF worked. Thank u Rory. Though I wonder why the profile is the reason for this problem...

Installed it via PPA, Hagar, ppa.launchpad.net/upubuntu-com/office/ubuntu.

I suspect that your OpenOffice window may have been slightly displaced on screen when maximised, so that scroll bar fell off the right hand side. Reducing the window to middle size and careful resizing of each side might have cured the problem, but so long as it is fixed ...

Seems the problem is in the desktop/window theme. Works when I select "Ambiance", doesn't if I selected anything else for GTK+ Theme.

Using Ubuntu 12.04 with classic gnome I tried the five available themes - Adwaita, Ambiance, Radiance, High Contrast and High Contrast Inverse. OpenOffice displayed a scroll bar in each on my system. Because of pressure of time I merely changed the theme and opened OpenOffice - I did not restart the computer each time, which might affect the result. I have now reverted to my standard Ambiance theme

I adapted this discussion to my Fedora system. Yep, it's just a faulty theme that is to blame. Changing my theme in Xfce brought back functional scroll bars.
