OOo in Ubuntu

Post by pasijp »

What is the reason that I am prevented to use OOo in Ubuntu 11.04. Going back to 10.10 I used before gave many problems. In my opinion this give me the smell of Microsoft practices.
Forced to use LibreOffice I met several problems wich are taking me time to solve them. My time is limited, so I now do my writing and calc in OOo on Windows 7. Normally I use Windows only for things that give problems in Linux, 90% was Ubuntu, that is diminished much now.
I'm sorry for it.

We don't decide what application is included in Ubuntu. Ubuntu decide that.

There's nothing to stop you uninstalling LibreOffice if you want and installing OOo instead.

You must be certain to uninstall all of LibreOffice from Ubuntu; I can't remember if Synaptic is standard install in Ubuntu 11.04, but I have it on the computer I'm using at present (and OOo 3.3). Using Synaptic uninstall libreoffice-core. Then install OpenOffice using the tutorial Gurkha pointed to.

First, Ubuntu has never used OOo in the recent past. Before Go-OO.org was replaced with LibreOffice, Go-OO.org was used.

Personally I use Oracle Open Office in Ubuntu or EuroOffice.
