LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
I just installed LibreOffice 3.5 (LO) and it's exhibiting some odd behavior. When I've got several LO applications open, it places them under one launcher icon. For example, I start Writer and subsequently Impress. There is only one unity launcher icon (the one for Writer) and Alt-KAT cycles through all the Writer windows as well as the Impress windows. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Expected behavior is one icon in the launcher for each application.

Re: LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
It makes separate tabs in Windows as long as it can, then it puts them all in one launcher icon. I suppose that's because LO is the application and Writer, Calc etc are just components.

thanks for that comment floris, but are we talking about the same thing? You mention "in Windows" but my particular issue is with Ubuntu 11.10 with the Unity GUI. Should I submit this as a bug?

Re: LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
I was just narrowing things down. How things are displayed on the toolbar is platform dependent, so it may be different for different platforms. So you could have a bug in the version for LO and not in the version for Windows.
But I said more than that I saw the same in Windows - I also stated that you see Writer, Calc etc as different apps, but that Linux might well regard them as components of one big app, LibreOffice, and then it makes sense to lump them together.

Re: LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
I'll be waiting until I get 3.5 via a regular update or when 12.04 is released. With LibreOffice 3.4.4 on Ubuntu 11.10 in Unity 3D mode, I find the Writer component is somewhat troublesome whereas the Calc component behaves very well. I don't use the other parts of LibreOffice.apdobaj wrote:I just installed LibreOffice 3.5 (LO) and it's exhibiting some odd behavior. ...
By Writer being troublesome, I mean that I manage to get "the program is no longer responding" rather frequently, or the instance of Writer just "vanishes" and isn't seen either in the Launcher or "Alt+Tab". The "global menu" also is erratic at best. I haven't found a way to consistently reproduce the problems I see with Writer and I don't see others complaining so maybe it's just something I've done
I should mention that the LibreOffice version I'm using is the one supplied (and "integrated") by Ubuntu.

Re: LibreOffice 3.5 and the Unity Launcher
For the record, with Gnome 3, you click (long) the OOo icon (it shows the latest active component icon: Writer/Calc/Impress/...) and there is a list showing the active documents.
With Gnome 3, you can Alt+key above Tab to switch between documents within the same application. Alt+Tab switches between applications. Rather strange at first but very useful in the end.

Interesting observations, thanks. With Unity Launcher, a long press just moves the icon. I've submitted a bug, we'll see what happens, that server must be really busy because it's very slow right now.
