Switch off "Always create backup copy" from config.

Issues with installing under all Linux Distributions

Switch off "Always create backup copy" from config.

Postby BorisGorbunov » Mon Oct 10, 2011 3:38 pm

Please help!
I need to switch of "Always create backup copy" options from configuration files.
Actually I prefer if this option will be off by default due to NAS security.
So I decided to create a bash script to make changes in user profile settings. (.openoffice.org)
But I couldn't find anything similar in all those 100 config files that remind me this options.

Boris.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Why a script for that? Do you have to change plenty of profiles?
Note that this option is off by default.

The setting is in registrymodifications.xcu in the user profile (...\OpenOffice.org\3\user)
Code: Select all   Expand viewCollapse view
  <item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Save/Document">
    <prop oor:name="CreateBackup" oor:op="fuse">
      <value>true</value>
    </prop>
  </item>

Change it to false.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Good day, thank you to quick replay.
Yes I need to change about 350 profiles.
I tried to open registrymodifications.xcu with different text and xml editors, but i could not find the
part you have mentioned :
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Save/Document">
<prop oor:name="CreateBackup" oor:op="fuse">
<value>true</value>
</prop>
</item>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I am using wrong program to open this file. Please help.
Thanks.

If you've 350 profiles, perhaps you should make a kind of template profile from a standard user and copy it at install from a network location (the only problem is that the user needs to update his personal data).

Have you tried to reset your OOo user profile? but don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process (if you had 2.x before), configuration files from the former version might corrupt the new profile. Then you should see the parts I've quoted.
NB: I usually use XML Copy Editor or just Gedit if I don't really need the file to be parsed.
