[Solved] Is there a 64 bit version for Fedora 14?

Post by JayArr »

Hello Gurus!

I purchased Oracle open office 3.3 a month or two ago and was really happy with it.

Now I've upgraded my computer and am having trouble getting OOO3.3 installed.

I'm running Fedora 14, X64 on an old IBM eServer, is there a specific x64 version of ooo3.3 I should be using?
I looked around in the download center and all I found were X64 "cloud" stuff.
When I google I find specific X64 versions of what I think is the free OO software but it's pretty confusing trying to figure out which is the free one and which will have the database and all the extra goodies built in.

I tried to install the same 32 bit version that worked on my last machine but got this error
[root@IBMeServer325 office]# ./setup
Checksumming...
Extracting ...

Done.
Using /var/tmp/install_14390/usr/java/jre1.6.0_22/bin/java

Edit: Let me add that this is a fresh install of Fedora14 and no other OO office suite has ever been installed, I turned it off during the install so that I wouldn't have to remove it to install ooo.

Any help, pointers or suggestions appreciated.

Jeff

There is the RPM package that is available for 64bit system for GNU/Linux.

Some hints here for the installation: [Solved] Starting OOo (Fedora 10).

Thanks!

I found an RPM of a 64 bit version of OOo and installed it.

My question then becomes, if it's exactly the same as OOO then why did I pay for the OOO license? i don't see what I got for paying that the free version doesn't provide.

C'est la vie!

I even got unixODBC working in 64 bit so I'm a pretty happy guy this week!

Where have you paid for an OOo license??? OOo is definitively free. But some sites charge for additional packages, templates, CD.
There is a link at the bottom of page that points to the download page, the RPMs are available there.

Hi Hagar

I didn't pay for an OOo license, last month I paid for an OOO license. I got a download from Oracle's web site that installed "Oracle Open Office" but other than the splash screen at the beginning I haven't noticed any difference between it and the free OOo.

In previous versions if you didn't pay Sun you got Open Office for free but no Abacus database. I think a bunch of fonts were also missing and some of the macros and functionality opf the spreadsheet were missing IIRC. I thought that if I didn't pay I wouldn't get HSQL so I paid them for it. I guess I should have just downloaded the free version
