I have just updated my Gentoo system with emerge --sync and emerge -uDN world
Before the update my OOo suite worked fine. Now, after the upgrade, OOo is extremely sluggish. E.g. when working with Impress, I have to wait for up to 5-7 seconds before the action actually happens. Have anyone else experienced this sluggish behavior? Is there any cure? I do not even know where to start searching for the problem.
I run:
System uname: Linux-2.6.27-gentoo-r8-i686-AMD_Phenom-tm-_9550_Quad-Core_Processor-with-gentoo-1.12.13

- swap memory is 2.8 GB
- Disk cache is 844 MB

Re: OOo very sluggish after emerge -uDN world (Gentoo)
I have studied my memory behavior when opening and working with an OOo Impress file with many pictures in it.
It turns out that my memory does not seem to be the bottleneck. During the whole process of opening, editing and closing the file the memory allocation hovers around these figures with little deviation:
Therefor I tend to believe it is not a memory problem.
I noticed that working with tables in OOo Impress makes the most sluggishness in the application.
Anyone have any more ideas of why this is?

Total Free memory 76%
Used Physical Memory 24%
Of the used physical memory the following division was observed:
Physical memory Free 60%
Disk cache 16%
Disc buffers 7%
Application data 15%
Swap Space was never used, i.e. 100% free
Therefor I tend to believe it is not a memory problem.
