hello,

i often have to write in french, so i need to write letters with accents. somehow this doesn't work in openoffice. i have tried all the language settings. my keyboard is configured correctly, in other apps i'm able to type these characters. and the alt+*-solution isn't really an option as i'm working on a laptop. on my windows machine, i don't have this problem, but i prefer working on linux :)

can anybody help me, please,

thank you,

yves

It's not an OOo issue, only linux setting problem. You didn't explained well, which Linux distribution you use, and under Gnome or KDE you works.
I know only KDE -- you must set up keyboard driver for your languages in KDE Control center, under languages (if translated well from Hungarian), and must activate keyboard handling. And if set up good, you could change between setting by clicking on the flags.

How exactly did you configure the accents? I have been struggling to configure openoffice to work with accents, and it is not obvious to me how.

I use Open Office on my laptop (using Windows XP) and can find French (france) accents by doing the following in Write: 1) Change language selection to French from toolbar: "Tools", language, select French (france)..ou Canada
2) wordcheck can pick up most accent punctuations and for ones not picked up I use toolbar: "Insert" , special characters, then select the character. I use Times New Roman font..so sometimes need to hunt for the character. Bonne Chance!

I know that this problem is marked as "solved," but the solution is not the best. There is now an OpenOffice extension for accent marks and it is much faster to use then spell check and inserting special symbols. The link is:http://extensions.services.openoffice.o ... accentuate.
