[Solved] Messed up Fonts

Post by afderrick »

So when I open up any document .odf or .doc (haven't tried on others) or if I start typing into a new document that hasn't been saved my fonts are messed up. Specifically my arial and times new roman font (from msttcorefonts package in Ubuntu). I downloaded a font viewer and looked at the font from the fonts folder and both look like they are supposed to. Additionally, if I use the fonts in other programs they are represented without any problems.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the msttcorefonts package and open office.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem? Has anyone heard of this problem happening before?

I can provide screenshots if requested.

FYI: I just downloaded AbiWord, and both fonts show up without a problem in that program, but I don't care for it as much. So it definitely is a problem exclusive to OO.

Can you try the official (Sun) version? See [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

no more replies, so I should just start using abiword and that suite of office apps? I really prefer OO.

By fluke, I found the fix action.

$ fc-list : file family | grep -i 'times.*new'
/home/rix/.fonts/timesi.ttf: Times New Roman
/home/rix/.fonts/times.ttf: Times New Roman
/home/rix/.fonts/timesbd.ttf: Times New Roman
/home/rix/.fonts/timesbi.ttf: Times New Roman

and respectively fc-list : file family | grep -i 'arial'

also helped find the fonts that were incorrectly mapped to that font name. Once I deleted those everything is now happy again.

I found this solution at: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 16&t=17500

Thank you.
