[Solved] OpenOffice.org Fedora10 not starting

Hello,

I've recently installed Fedora 10 and Oo3 on a dell p4 computer. Oo3 ran successfully until recently. Both command line and quick launchers don't open the program, it doesn't even get to the splash screen. Here is the code from the command line.

libuno_sal.so.3 does exist in the directory usr/lib/openoffice.org/ure/lib/ I have attempted to create a symbolic link. Unfortunately I still have had no success. My thinking was if I could get that to work then I could go through and fix the others

I haven't had this problem myself, but the general advice seems to be:

In my case, Fedora 10 x86_64, I have to redirect the ure-link to /usr/lib64/openoffice.org/ure but it was not enough it still can not found libstlport_gcc.so

$ soffice
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstlport_gcc.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I needed to copy libstlport_gcc.so to /usr/lib64/openoffice.org/ure/lib which got me wondering why the hell is this library missing in a updated rpm openoffice.org-ure-1.4.0-9358.x86_64.rpm

The OOo version in the various Linux distributions have usually been modified and repackaged by the distributor. On my Ubuntu box the distro version of OOo has no Base component! For serious work I usually uninstall the distro version and replace it with the official OOo releases.

Knowing the link at least allows me to avoid doing a full re-install. But does anyone know how I can stop this occuring again?

So to stop this from occuring again, I made the link to thin air into a link to something with:

# cd /opt/openoffice.org
# ln -s /usr/lib/openoffice.org/ure/ ure

And to be neat about it put back the link to thin air (which is now something), with

# cd /opt/openoffice.org/basis3.1/
# mv ure-link foo
# mv ure-link.backup ure-link
# mv foo ure-link.backup

As a reminder it was

lrwxrwxrwx.  1 root root     6 2009-11-02 17:40 ure-link -> ../ure

which you could remake with

Code: Select all

rm ure-link
ln -s ../ure ure-link

Now we shouldn't have a problem of a new install which does this because the link to thin air is really to the right place.
