no color on Dell 5100 by default

I am using OO 2.3.0 on Fedora 8 with a Dell 5100 color laser printer with the 'Dell M5200 Foomatic/Postscript (recommended)' driver (the closest one available).

The printer successfully prints color from the CUPS test page, Firefox and Evince (PDF viewer). It does not print color from OpenOffice by default. If I modify file/printer_settings/Dell5100/properties/device and change the Color dropdown from 'from driver' to 'color' it works fine. However, I have to remember to do this each time I start the program, since the changed setting is not saved.

Is there a way to make this setting permanent?

Thanks,
Dave.

Sorry you never got an answer to your question. Were you able to find any solution?

Hi,
No - I still have to manually set it each time I start the application.

Ouch.

Well, my OOo does not seem to save those printer properties either, so it seems that is just a limitation in the application.

I would guess then, that the best approach is to find out whether the M5200 "driver" can be configured to tell OOo it's actually a color printer. That, however, would have to come from the OpenPrinting people. I don't have the first clue how to do it.
