[Solved] 4.1.10 installed, but cant add another spellchecker

Post by hanscees »

Hi,
I have installed openoffice 4.1.10 fine:

go to https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
downlaod full installation
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.10_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

Double-click on it and extract to Downloads/Openoffice2021/

Go to a terminal
cd ~/Downloads/openoffice2021/en-US/DEBS
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

And it works.

However I cant get the spellingscheck form a second language to work. I can set the language to Dutch, but it looks like there is no dictionary to work with, becuase the spellingscheck exits right away and there in no green V visable, as there is with En-US in the language settings.

So I downloaded the Dutch language package only and installed it the same way.
However, spellchecking in Dutch still does not work.

How to proceed? Help is appreciated!

Currently dictionaries are not included in language packs, only in full installations. Thus the English version doesn't have spellcheckers for other languages. The Dutch language pack only gives you a user interface in Dutch.

There is however a Dutch spelling and hyphenation Dictionary extension which may work with your version of Apache OpenOffice.

if I install the full Dutch version, will it have an en-us dictionary?
That would be an option.

Ubuntu? Use the pre-installed LibreOffice. No need to install OpenOffice.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

I think that the en dictionary is installed by default even for localized version but not sure.
Anyway, either install the EN version and then the Dutch extension or install the Dutch version and then the EN extension.

Under Ubuntu, the dictionaries are available in Synaptic for LO.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.

installed synaptic via

sudo apt-get install synaptic

In synaptic searched for OpenOffice. Then synaptic marks hunspell-xx as possibilities
Installed hunspell-nl.

nothing improves I am afraid

solved it.

The Dutch extention on your website does not work.
But an extention on another website does:

opentaal.nl/bestanden/file/4-woordenlijst-v-2-10g-voor-openoffice-org-3

While this functions I find this solution kind of crappy of course for 2021

I installed the Dutch extension from the Apache site. It does work. In the Extension Manager it shows a link to the opentall.nl site and is an older version of the extension from that site that you say does work.

The hunspell-nl dictionary downloaded using Synaptic is from Ubuntu, not Apache. It is not an OpenOffice extension so AOO can't use it for SpellCheck.
