Potential workaround until the actual problem can be resolved:
If your forum signature is correct, then you are running Windows 7. Even if you are using a different browser, Microsoft's browser, called Internet Explorer, is installed on your system.
You can run it independently by clicking the Start button, then typing "iexplore" (without the quotes) in the Search programs and files box, located at the bottom left of the Start menu.
You could then download OpenOffice 4.1.7 using Internet Explorer
Doing it this way, will bring up prompts to make Internet Explorer your default...just answer No, when it asks, and will enable you to download the installation files for OpenOffice.
