Installing Java on Win 10

Post by Sam555 »

I am trying to develop a custom customer contact, mailing application for a small ministry. It looks like open office will meet the needs. I ran a small test on my Mac(64 bit) and needed java for the data base module to build tables. I downloaded java and everything simply worked. Now I am working on a 64 bit win 10 machine and after downloading 64 bit java open office does not recognize this version of java. I tried to download the 32 bit java and was not able to do so.

I believe open office 4.6.1 is 32 bit and needs 32 bit java to operate. If so how can I accomplish this??

I have spent hours on this!

Thanks!!

[I suspect you meant OpenOffice 4.1.6 :) ] That is the case. Have you read Troubleshooting Open/LibreOffice and Java? The first paragraph seems to have the information you need.

Yes 4.1.6 -:) I did read this and tried to download. The install package arrived twice but it said there was an error in the image? and would not install?
I am totally brain fried now but I could try again tomorrow. I was thinking it might be because the operating sys was 64 bit. Then again I kept reading that you could install both 64 bit and 32 bit java.

Thanks for answering!!

Try a web search (Google, DuckDuck, whatever) on the error message you get when trying to install Java.

You can have both 32 and 64 bit Java installed.
