Problems with Windows Defender under Windows 10

Post by triggers »

@John_Ha

Many thanks for this tutorial.

Windows 10.0.17134/Firefox 66.0.3

Yesterday I looked at my brother's settings for Defender so set mine the same as his. I ticked Ransomware protection and set a PIN for login.

1) OO was working fine yesterday but this morning would not save a Calc spreadsheet. "General input/output error while accessing"
2) I found my version of OO was 4.1.5 so tried the Check for Updates under Help. This failed "Error reading data from the internet. Server error message"
3) I downloaded 4.1.6 from SourceForge. Double clicked the .exe but the install failed very early on with "Error opening file for writing"

Came here and sorted 1 and 3 :bravo: by removing the tick from Ransomware protection in Defender.

I'll dig a bit more about no 2 which is still a problem.

Thanks,
Dave

I have been having trouble with saving files too. Sometimes they save ok, sometimes I get the error. I just switched off controlled folder access, saved the file no problem then turned it back on. I also followed another thread about using powershell to add the soffice.bin file to controlled folder access but it didn't solve the problem of saving, only turning off controlled folder access did it.

Try adding the directory where you are saving the files to the approved list for controlled access.
