Cannot open existing OpenOffice files

Hi to all.
I have been using openoffice for years without problem. Now, when I click on an existing file it asks me to install the entire file (download). I finally erased the old program and downloaded a new one 4.1.6 The problem still exists. I can open a blank page so as to write a doc but can not open existing docs. I have set OpenOffice as my default also.

Do you get any error message when you attempt to open an existing file?

Can you open the attached file - the first four chapters of Pride and Prejudice?

Please confirm your operating system. Have you recently restored or updated it? Or acquired a new computer?
