Can't get help ?

Post by champ73 »

I,v been using open office for a number of years but am not exactly a "whiz kid" with computers. I clicked on the open office "help" but when I entered a topic, I got a pop up telling me I need to install a JRE (Java Runtime Environment)
How and why do I have to do this
open office 4.1

How? If you are using Windows, go to java.com and download and install the 32-bit Java.

Why? Probably because AOO uses Java to run Help.

You will find much useful information in the User Guides, the Writer, Base and Calc Tutorials and the AOO Frequently Asked Questions. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

The help as such does not depend on Java. Only the search for keywords does. You can browser the help and search the indexed keywords without any Java being installed.

Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.
