I have been experiencing this issue for some time. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling OpenOffice but still have this problem. Please advise.

Strange problems are sometimes fixed by resetting the profile - see Resetting the user profile.

Does it happen with every file? Or is it always the same file?

Search with bad allocation windows 10 for other posts.

After I began experiencing this same problem, I researched it and found that a W10 security update was being blamed.
The recommendation was to remove the update, but it had been too long apparently and my system would not permit me to uninstall the update.
I do not remember which update it was - sorry.

It is said, by reliable reporters, that later Windows 10 updates fix the problem with the faulty updates. So first step is is to ensure Win 10 is fully updated and restart it.

I cannot access Open Office. Ia my file lost or any suggestions how do I get to it and transfer to another or new office file. My computer skills are very limited. this was a large file

If you are trying to access OpenOffice by double clicking a file, try instead accessing OpenOffice from the Start button - Programs setting.

If that is successful, please make a small sample file, Save it, and reopen it. That information is essential to allow us decide if your OpenOffice installation is broken, or if your problem lies with merely the file that is giving you the reported error message.

Search the Calc forum with bad allocation.

I quickly found that it seems to be a bug which only affects very large files - see Issue 125006 - Calc Consistently crashing, usually with "Fatal Error - Bad Allocation"

You might like to switch to LibreOffice and see if LO is better as it is almost certain never to be fixed in AOO - it was reported in 2014.

I can now open Office 4.1.1 but not that file which is 35,500 KB. It now keeps to "recovery" if I close Office down and it states that it is recovered successfully but wont open it as fatal error bad location comes up
If I get Libre Office how do I transfer this file.

1. Uninstall AOO
2. Install LO.
3. File > Open ..., and navigate to where it is.

If LO does not open the file it is damaged - tell us exactly what happens when you try to open it.

I have most of my document files in Open Office. Will I lose them or will Libre Office be an additional programme

LibreOffice is another office suite that shares the same file format as OpenOffice. You won't lose your files, although they will not initially appear in LibreOffice's recent files list.

It will not open in LO. Has the same response Fatal error etc

Then upload the file to a filesharing site and post the URL here; perhaps it can be repaired.

I have a weird situation with this error. I have 2 laptops at 2 different locations. At my apartment the file would open and work just fine (older HP laptop upgrade to Windows 10 Pro). At my parent's house I have a newer Lenovo Flex-14. I am getting this error on the Lenovo. I would open the OO Calc file and even if I don't do anything to it I would get the error. I do notice that if I do a lot of copying and pasting it seems to crash quicker. Any idea what is happening? I can see if this was happening on the old laptop but I am surprised this is happening to a new laptop with more memory.

Sep 17th, 2022 OpenOffice 4.1.13 Windows 11 Home ... apache worked prior to apache recent update here during summer, and I am the sole adminsitrator of this pc-windows: Basoícally this is same solutions as previous contributors except 'Run OpenOffice' as ADMINSTRATOR:
to start: on your desk top:
1) right click OpenOffice 4.1.13 icon choose: 'Run as administrator'
2) 'Do you want to allow this app...' choose: 'Yes'
3) open your 'File Explorer' to adjust access settings ... go this pc ... go drive OC (C:) ... go Program Files (x86) ... right click 'OpenOffice 4' folder
4) choose 'Show more options' and the choose 'Properties'
5) as other contributors above ... choose fan in the top beam ... 'Security' then click 'Edit'
5a click ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and then choose 'Allow' ... all will be chosen....meaninf ball boxes checked (except for not relevant options).
5b ALL RESTRICTED APP PACKAGES and then choose 'Allow' ... all will be chosen.
5c repeat all the next and finished at:
5d 'TrustedInstaller' and then choose 'Allow' ... all will be chosen.
6) choose 'Apply'
7) restart
