[Solved] Can I turn OpenOffice on and off ?

Post by SittingTooMuch »

Sometimes I only need WordPad to print something like a snail mail address. AOO seems to think that the 3 address lines are supposed to be AOO files. Is there an easy way to turn AOO on and off as needed ? Thanks for your time. :-) Windows 7 (x64)

No. Different file types are associated with a default program. If you don't need to open the files with AOO, then change the default program setting in Windows so they open with WordPad.

If I change the default program setting will I lose those AOO files ? Also, after opening the start button what should I click on to make the change ?
Thanks Bill

You won't lose any files, but they will open with WordPad, not AOO. Google "change default programs windows 7" if you need instructions. That's what I would have to do since I don't use Windows.

Just use the
File - Open ...
or the
File - New...
menu item inside any editor software.

In this case it is not relevant what a editor software was assigned permanently to a specific type of the document files.

Alternatively you can use a right click on the file and select Open With.
