[Solved] ABW files

Issues with installing under all versions of MS Windows

[Solved] ABW files

Postby SittingTooMuch » Fri Feb 15, 2019 11:49 pm

My computer tech set up my Windows 7 machine and put AOO 4.1.6 on it. I have some old text files copied over from my XP computer which were created with Abiword. AOO doesn't recognize abw files and neither does wordpad. Does anyone know an easy fix for this ? Thank you. :)

Download and install AbiWord, open the files and save as .odt format which OpenOffice can then open.

Best not to work as .rtf.

Are there some privacy issues with .rtf ?

No, except that an RTF file can be opened with an ordinary plain text editor (although difficult to understand).
OO does not like long RTF files. Better to work in ODT format (or the other native OO format for each application) and Save As to .doc or better yet to PDF only when finished, if the completed work is to be shared with others.

The Libreoffice can open the AbiWord files directly (I never tried it):

PortableApps, winPenPack: LO3.3.0-6.2.1 and AOO4.1.5
