Reinstall of 4.1.6 failed

Post by Tezzah3550 »

Been using OO for many years on many win computers. Excellent product! Began having files crash on new Thinkpad (large cal and now writer). Tried many forum solutions. Decided to reinstall version over top of existing version. After downloading via sourceforge, installation got partway through then this message...
Any help would be appreciated!

A search of the forum returned a few topics like yours - possibly the second result from that link is a good place to start.

Thank you for your quick reply! Ive searched the topics under the same post heading but they seem to be dealing with earlier versions, or c++ installation issues (whatever this is...) or WIN10 updates. I tried earlier to roll back to earlier version but this did not help.
Only happens on some files. Others open for editing OK.
Is it possible that a colleague changing a file in dropbox to a .doc file for editing, then changed it back to OOWriter for my input could cause corruption of these files?

I can open the said files in dropbox (I think they open as a Word type file) but when I try to copy and paste into OO as a new write file, they crash again.

At a guess, your colleague editing and changing types of those files may change ownership of them, which could lead to you being refused permission to access them.

Prove everything works by creating, editing and saving a test .odt file to the desktop, and then double-clicking it to open it, edit it and save it again.

See [Tutorial] Differences between Writer and MS Word files for why you should always work in and save files as .odt.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
