[Solved] Read only document

Post by Joe in Web »

I'm familiar with Microsoft word and used it for years. I have been using Open Office for about a year with my Windows 10 PC. I have a document that I use often but recently when I open it the document has become "read only" and I cannot edit it. I have tried various things using the HELP info, but no luck.

Can anyone suggest how to get this document out of read only?

Enable "Viewing of hidden and archive files" (words to that effect) and look in the directory of the file for a lock file of form

Code: Select all

.~lock.YourFileName.odt#
and delete this.

Thanks for the information. I was able to cut and paste the information into a new .odt document. Still could not get the prior Word.doc to go out of read only.

Hi

Have you checked the file permission setting? there might be issue in file permission setting,

Follow the below steps to change the permission setting of the file

Do the right click on file and click on properties
Now, Go to security tab and click on Edit button to change the setting

Try this option, if it is about file permission setting issue then this method will work for you.
