[Solved] File will not open OpenOffice 4.1.2
[Solved] File will not open OpenOffice 4.1.2
I have a file on my desktop. It's a file type ".rtf" that I just accessed about 8 hours ago. Now when I try to open this file, I get the "General Error. General input/output error" message. I looked over the forums. The operating system is Windows 10 Home. I am not running Windows Defender. I really need access to this file and I do not understand why suddenly I have no access. Can anyone please give me some options? Thank you.

That message usually means that the computer is unable to retrieve data from storage. It could mean that the storage unit holding your document is damaged, or the unit holding the software is damaged. It could also mean that the desktop object is a link to a file, and the actual file is no longer available (removable storage).
Is it possible to attach the offending file to a posting here? (This is a public place, so don't post anything confidential!)

[Forum] How to attach a document here Note maximum file size is 128K. If your file is larger, use a file sharing site such as Mediafire and post the link here.

Can you open it with another application (like Wordpad)?
LibreOffice 7.6.2.1 on Xubuntu 23.10 and 7.6.4.1 portable on Windows 10

Thanks Hagar, I didn't even think of that but that solution worked, WordPad was able to open the file. I was able to retrieve the data and save it in another format. Thank you all for your efforts. Best regards-
