Resetting user profile

Post by don.hark@gmail.com »

using Open Office 4.1.5 on Windows 10
AOO crashing constantly, writer, calc, from several types of usage.
Have gotten as far as advice to reset user profile and trying to follow tutorial on same.

Up to the following from the tutorial. This doesn't appear useful in System 10, as clicking on Roaming produces no User Profile.

From Windows 7: click Start and type %appdata% in the Search box. Click "Roaming".
Rename the \user folder (see here for its location) to \user.old for example. This way, you still keep a backup of your configuration.

First, shutdown OpenOffice. Open any folder and enter
%appdata%\OpenOffice\4
in the address bar near the top. This will take you to the location of the user folder. Rename it user_old and restart OpenOffice. You should get the registration screen.

As FJCC said, use the address bar, not the search box. Putting %appdata% in the address bar and pressing ENTER opens the "Roaming" folder.

thanks. did that. Only using it for awhile will give me some idea if the fix works. Usually after bringing it up, it works for awhile then starts throwing up.
PS I forgot to note that this has happened before, and a few days ago after a Microsoft update.

Is this a problem that started recently? There are several recent topics about a recent Windows 10 update causing problems with OpenOffice. Have you looked at those?
