All word misspelled

Post by techmate35 »

Hi folks
I have been trying to find an answer in earlier posts to the problem, but I could not find any.

Dictionary shows misspelled on all words when writing Swedish and using Swedish dictionary
It works right when writing English and using English dictionary
There is the same problem with both the OO-writer and OO-calc

I know there is an issue.
See this link: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Sv.ope ... ttstavning
I can't follow the instructions on that page. "Install new dictionaries" isn't there under Arkiv (File)-> Guider (Wizards).

I think the dictionary was deleted at the last update of the OpenOffice.
The extensions can’t be added if there isn’t any dictionary
Under tools there is an option to add extensions, but there isn’t any Swedish dictionary to add it to.

Please let me know how to fix the problem.

Regards techmate :)

Welcome to the forum.

It looks like there is something wrong with the Swedish dictionary so download it and install it again. Tools > Extension Manager > Get more extensions on line ...

See [Troubleshooting] Spell check in OpenOffice and [Solved] Spell Check Not Working (words red underlined)

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

See especially Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 for spelling and languaghe settings.

Hi John

I have done that. See my original post: "The extensions can not be added if there is not any dictionary" I downloaded the extensions, then you are supposed to select a dictionary to add it to, but there is not any Swedish dictionary.

Just now, I have not tested the rest you have written, but I have spent several days trying to find an answer and I might have done it already

I will carry on as you suggest, but could you please klick on the link and give me an explanation in the mean time.

I clicked the link but the only Swedish I know is "Tak".

Read the manual pages I pointed you to or follow the instructions I gave you ... Go Tools > Extension Manager > Get more extensions on line ..., and find the Swedish directory.

Alternatively can you download a Swedish AOO which includes the Swedish directory when you download it?

The issue is about that page. It is absolutely obsolete as its instructions are for OpenOffice.org of versions older than 3.0. Forget it. Better read the tutorials pointed to by John_Ha.

Well, I know approximately 20 times more words (i. e. approximately 20 words in total :D ), however in this case it is enough to spot this: “För Open Office 2.2.0”.

Hi again
Thanks for the many answers

Apparently there is a misunderstanding. The following screen dumps may hopefully help.
If it doesn't help, I need to talk with the fellow who wrote the instructions about the problem with Swedish dictionary.
Is there anyone who knows where I can get hold of him or her.

OpenOffice missing dictionary

The option "Install a new dictionary" has been removed from the previous place:
File (Arkiv) -> Wizard (Guider).

Image 1 not loaded

As the option "Install a new dictionary" is missing ,I can't perform the first 10 points described in the instructions.
See the link
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Sv.ope ... ttstavning

The remaining points 11 - 20 refer to the
Tools -> Options (Alternativ) -> Language settings.
Here everything is as normal, except for "writing aids"
there are only English variants available.

There isn't any place to add or install a new dictionary.
Tools -> add extensions and -> Optins
Tools -> add extensions and -> Optins
On Tools -> Extensions (Tilläggshanteraren) the following is happening.

(There isn't any place to add or install a new dictionary.)

See below:Extensions
Only one English dictionary is available,
Only one dictionary is visible
Only one dictionary is visible
Clicking on add extension. (Lägga till ..)
The Windows explorer opens and it is possible to add
Swedish extensions that I had been downloading earlier.
Opening dict-sv.oxt
Opening dict-sv.oxt
Selecting the dict-sv.oxt extension and a clicking on open is giving the following result:

Image 5 Not loaded Red Warning with text
OpenOffice 4.1.2 doesn't respond and crashes.

Have a nice day

We are now on 4.1.4. It's unlikely but you may be using a newer dictionary than 4.1.2 supports.

1. Uninstall AOO
2. Make sure that your user profile is not re-used by renaming C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user to C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user_OLD.
3. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html.
Clipboard02.png
4. Select Swedish. Click Download full installation.
5. Install AOO.

Does it now work? If so, use it.

If you want to copy back your customisations then copy everything back from the old profile EXCEPT DO NOT COPY THESE:

- C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\registrymodifications.xcu
- C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\config
- C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\uno_packages.

Does it still work?

Uninstalling is superfluous. Try first resetting the user profile, i. e. start with the step 2. Then simply try to install the extension that you have downloaded, sv-SV.oxt.

The error message says the user is running 4.1.2.

And while I agree with the sentiment that it just requires resetting the profile and downloading and installing the dictionary, the poster is having problems doing just that! Un-installing and re-installing is a simple way to fix to everything in one go.
