[Solved] AOO 4.1.4 'RE-REGISTER' after Windows Update

The last two Windows Update resulted in requirement to "Re-Register" OO. The 1st time, after the Windows Update, I attempted to open an existing CALC document and was required to REGISTER Open Office, which caused LOSS of ALL DATA in the CALC Document (Thank goodness for off-site backup {MOZY}: I was able to recover the previous version of the CALC document).
The 2nd time, after the Windows Update, I used the OO desktop Icon to open a new CALC document (and go thru the FORCED RE-REGISTER process). Are there any plans to FIX THIS PROBLEM?

Openoffice does not force you to register. There is an optional screen to enter user data, but that can be skipped. If you are forced to register, you may have some third party (possibly rogue) build of the suite.

Anyway, if you get a new registration and your files are lost after Windows update, I'd suspect the operating system is at fault. Sometimes you get a new user profile, and the old one is still on your system using a different name. Look in the C:\users folder for similar names (like your username).

If the Windows update occurred while OpenOffice was open, it may be that your OO user profile was not saved by the update process; such a missing profile causes the request to re-register, so that OO can identify your files and preferences.
