[Solved] installation with Java

Post by harry1437 »

Hi all I'm a new member so please forgive my lack of knowledge. I have downloaded OpenOffice and installed it OK, when I tried to run it it said it needed Java run-time environment. I then downloaded and installed Java and Java run-time environment. on checking configuration it states Java is installed but I still cannot get the database section to create a database. Have I missed something or is there something I'm not doing
OS - Windows 10
browser - Firefox
OpenOffice 4.1.4
Java - version 8 update 15 build 1.8.0_151-b12

OpenOffice needs a 32-bit version of Java. You probably only have the 64-bit version. Go to Java.com, click "Download", then click "See all Java downloads", then click the "Windows Offline" link to download the 32-bit installer.

The version of Java you require will have 586 in its filename (586 indicating 32 bit). Having installed it, you must then select it (one time only necessary) in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice /Java.
