Hi.
Have been using OpenOffice for a few years.
I had shortcuts to my files with .ocs
One day, I found all my shortcuts modified: The ".ocs" were changed to "XLS" however the corresponding files were not corrupted or changed to MSoffice
I used the one of the "new shortcut and it took me to the file but with various statements from MS office the prevented me to work on the file
When I deleted one of the "new" shortcuts, the corresponding file was completed erased..
There are only two adults with access to this computer. We do not have any copies of MS office in our possession.. We never tried to install, copy or download MSOffice and we never had "MSOffice" on this computer.
1/ What can I do to prevent this problem to happen when creating shortcuts
2/ Any "safe" way to remove shortcuts without erasing the corresponding file.
3/ Any ideas as how this could happen and how to prevent future similar problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
William

Re: Files are hijacked by MSoffice
Set "File Associations" at operating system level to tell the files they are to be opened by OpenOffice. If you don't know how to do this, look up the keywords "File Associations".
