There is probably an easier way than this. I went to the folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\program
right clicked on the file soffice.exe and selected Create Shortcut. Windows complained that it cannot create a shortcut in that folder and asked if I wanted it on the desktop. I answered yes.
