[Solved] OO Demands Java but won't recognize it

Post by HoggyDog »

Trying to use Writer help for a formatting issue. Popup says it requires JRE but can't find it. So I point it to E:\Program Files\Java\Bin, which is where javaw.exe lives. (My C: drive is an SSD and I avoid installing junk on it whenever possible) However, despite pointing it to the exact folder where the JRE executable lives, OO steadfastly refuses to acknowledge it and insists that there is no JRE in that folder. So I disabled "Use Java" but it still demands it to open help.

JRE version is JRE 8 x64. Please help, thanks.

Open Office is a 32 bit program that requires (for some parts) the 32 bit version of Java.
Download and install the 32 bit version of Java and your problem should be resolved.

This absolutely worked. Thank you very much. :super:

Now I'm looking for the "Mark As Solved" button, and... well, you know. I'm trying to be a good citizen, but without the tools... :?

There is no button - you have to do it by hand :)

How to tag a topic as solved.

In your first post, click the Edit button. Go to the subject line and add [Solved] at the beginning of the subject.

Then select the tick as the Post icon (just below the subject line). Preview if you wish to see how it looks.
Finally, hit Submit - done!
Cheers

I won't tell you how long I spent searching for a small, dog-infesting hemophagic arachnid icon before I finally realized that you meant "check mark" and not an actual tick. :D
