[Solved] Java Runtime Environment not found.

Post by ubiquity »

I am trying to install JRE on a communal computer so that I can build and run a split HSQL 2.x database. My own PC is running JRE 8 happily so I can build the database but it will need to be transferred to the communal computer for community use.
The machine in question is a 64-bit PC running Windows 10 (32 bit). It has two physical drives C: on which the operating system is installed and D: on which most applications and data are installed.
Open Office is installed on the D: drive and (apart from Base) appears to be functioning well.
Base, of course requests access to the JRE.
I have installed JRE (32 bit) first to D:\Program Files\Java and attempted to add the path but O-O 4.1.3 gives me the message "The folder you selected does not contain a Java runtime environment. Please select a different folder." This message appears for every folder in the Java install.
When that failed I installed Java to C:\Program Files\Java with exactly the same results.
I have done this twice - using Oracle's Java removal tool between attempts.

Subsequently I have tried setting the Class Path and Parameters specifically - all to no avail.

Can anyone please suggest what I should do next.

Thanks - I can't install 64 bit windows as the licence is only 32-bit but installing Linux as dual boot may have some possibilities. Part of the idea with installing O-O in the first place was interoperability , I will have to investigate what training overhead may be involved as most potential users will be Windows centric.

I would still prefer a solution that involves utilising the JRE that is installed - I just need to understand why O-O is not recognising it.

You don't need 64-bit Windows. Download and run the file detailed in the link. That will install a 32-bit component that should allow AOO 4.1.3 to find the installed 32-bit JRE.

Thanks Bill,
Sorry I read your specs as a suggestion of what to do , not what systems you are running.
I will follow the link and try it the next time I have access to the PC in question, and report back.
There are so many posts concerned with various aspects of JRE issues it has been difficult finding the appropriate solution until your response.

Thanks very much Bill.
It appears to have solved the problem.
Now to see if I can get a split database running first on the machine and then in shared cyberspace.
