Trying to help my mother in law who a few days back encountered problems with OO: when trying to Save or Save as, nothing happens (no dialog box). When closing a document, the "Save changes" dialog appears, but clicking Yes/Save leads to nothing. I've used OO for many years but never seen anything like this...
At the same time, the graphic appearence changed, note the "dotted" pattern behind the white box. Computer graphics are set to 32bit color, so it doesn't make sense.
I've tried unistalling & installed OO again, but no luck.

Re: OO won't save and looks weird...
I suggest starting by renaming the OpenOffice user profile.
Do this:
Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address Bar and press Enter. Delete or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.
If the user is already a heavy user of Writer (i.e., for thesis, book, play etc.) there may be customised dictionaries etc, these can now be brought forward to the new profile from the old.

Re: OO won't save and looks weird...
For the record, I've similar issues on Xubuntu 16.10:
First time I see such glitches in AOO. No problem on Windows 7 and 10.
Even the side bar is hard to use:
It worked fine before (16.04). I hope it will disappear with 17.04...First time I see such glitches in AOO. No problem on Windows 7 and 10.

I haven't tried 16.10, Hagar. I may try it off a live USB later, just to see. What graphics card are you using?

Thanks for the input. I actually already tried making a "clean" install by deleting all appData files first, but it didn't help either.RoryOF wrote:I suggest starting by renaming the OpenOffice user profile.

Anyway, problem now solved: I went through the registry & deleted all OO related files (sounds dramatic, but worked) & re-installed. Now it works fine again. Nevere experienced anything like this earlier though!

Re: OO won't save and looks weird...
I installed 16.10 and AOO 4.1.3 on a USB; using the Nouveau driver driving an nVidia 6100 the OO splash screen looked OK. The screen was running at 1024x768, it should be capable of 1280 x 1024, but I hadn't time to tweak to that.
@Hagar: Possibly worth tweaking the hardware acceleration and the antialiasing settings, just to see.

No change. I'll wait for 17.04. Only 1 month remaining...
